The latest jobs report just dropped, and it was…surprisingly solid? What?
About 130,000 jobs were added last month. That’s roughly double what they thought it was going to be, which in a year that feels like a lost season of Black Mirror, we’ll take all the good news we can get.
Though before we start planning the parade, there was a small catch: When they revised 2025’s numbers (apparently they do that?), it turns out fewer jobs were created last year than originally reported. Not ideal - but most of those revisions came from the early part of the year. The more recent months are holding up better than expected.
Translation: the sky isn’t falling. 🙌 And while the market is far from perfect, it appears to at least be holding steady, if not showing early signs of bouncing back.
If you’ve been in the weeds of job searching for months, national numbers probably feel pointlessly abstract. And they kind of are. But they are also a signal of things to come, which is hopefully a little encouraging. Jobs are still being created. Companies are still hiring. Very slowly, but we’re getting there.
